Song: City To City Remix
Album: Go Remixed
(I’m going to cover the City To City remix…because….just because. Oh, and I would warn you, beware of much digressing on my part. Much, I half gave up on this post several times because of it…)

Where you are now, this piece of history don’t be out alone just pack your bags and come to where it’s free. You know we have to go, there’s so much left to be done.

Did you know that the word ‘go’ is used nearly 1,500 times in the NKJ Bible? One of those times is in Matthew 28, the very end of the chapter reads:

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you….

So where do you want to be at the end of January in 2009? What is the first thing that comes to mind when I ask that? Want to be a little richer? Famous? Out in the country? Married? Dream job? Traveled?

The Bible talks about riches, fame, jobs, marriges, but it also says that in the end all those things will fall away and be as dust. It doesn’t say look formost for the best job, that you must have the most romantic, handsome, and thoughtful mate, or that you need to see Big Ben before dying, none of those things really matter. The Bible says

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Seek first the Kingdom Of God. Well, if you look up the word ‘kingdom’ you’ll find that the word is used about three hundred times in the same version as before. It’s used five times in the fifth chapter of Matthew. It says blessed are the poor in spirit, the kingdom is theirs, blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake the kingdom of heaven is theirs also. Further down it reads:

Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Let your light shine, let your light shine. You know, to ‘go’ isn’t so much as traveling to distant lands hanging out in basements at night and standing on soap boxes on the street corners during the day yelling and waving your arms to emphasis how great God is and what poor sinners they are, and maybe even being a little stuffed up about your Bible knowledge. Is that truely poor in spirit? Instead go out and restore; restore the land and reassign its desolate inheritances, to say to the captives, ‘Come out,’ and to those in darkness, ‘Be free!’

1, 2, 3, 4, I’m going on a trip from city to city, you wanna come along? You wanna come along?

Of course, we have to have a little word from Paul Colman in here, City To City is, after all, his second favorite song. Here’s him, interview copied from TitleTrakk.com.

My second favorite song is actually on the bonus disk, the song called “City to City”. I really love that song! That’s another one I went to bat for, and we didn’t get it finished in time so it ended up going on the bonus disk. But we may pull it out live, or maybe if the album gets re-released at some point I’ll put my two cents in and say, “That needs to be there.”

We’re going from city to city to encourage believers and to encourage non-believers alike to really, in this day and age, realize that there is a God, and He loves us, and He has a plan for our lives that’s so much better than any plan we could come up with. So, I just like that city to city idea.

…And I’m sorry for digressing so terribly!
