Song: Wherever We Go
Album: GO

So…what happens wherever you go? Do blue birds sing? Squirrels smile and wave? Do crooks repent? And, of course, ultimately, do you love your job?

Or, do you go anywhere? So many people seem to be (in the words of Peter Furler) "packing [their] bags and just wait[ing] for this whole place to collapse." That’s definitely not the correct thinking, in the first chapter of Acts the disciples ask if now (then) was the appointed time for the kingdom of heaven to appear. And Jesus said to them, "it is not for you to know" it’s not something for you to be worrying about or just packing your bags and waiting on. I think Peter does a great job of telling us what this song is about in the New Release Tuesday podcast for October 31, 2006.

"Well, one think is people could look at it on the serface and think of its sort of a party song. Well it’s not about that, if you really look deep into it, further, if you really have to. It’s really a song about us effecting the culture. It’s about all the thinks–you know God as given us the earth, you know, right at the beganning he gave it to us to take care of and do good things. It’s like a saying my Dad always had or allot of people’s parents had: ‘Hey, leave the place better than when you came.’ So really the songs about that…you know, God gives gifts to all of us, we’re to use them obviously first to his glory but also to effect those around us. …it’s our job to really get into this culture–not to become like it–but to let our light shine. I think that’s one of the ways, I think wherever you go thinks began to happen. A trail, like a aroma, sweeps behind you."

We’re to be a witness to God in all the desolate regions of the earth, whether they seem desolate from the outside or not. We read those, or I read those and I think of something Francis of Assisi said, he said,

"Preach the gospel at all times, if necessary, use words."

It doesn’t matter whether words are spoken or not, it doesn’t technically matter if a sermon is preached or not. But if the light shines then strange things began happening. If you go about making the place better than when you left for His glory than you’ll be spreding that aroma. And strange things will happen, maybe not as strange as ozone layers drastically changing, or squirrels waving; but like I said, strange things.

So shine.
