New York Photos VI

This is a picture of the Vanderbilt Mansion. This mansion belonged to Frederick Vanderbilt, the last of the Vanderbilts and this was Vanderbilts' smallest mansion (his smallest mansion could house eighteen guests and had about twenty fireplaces!) Frederick's grandfather was a very rich man--at the time he was living, one in every US dollars was his. That's a lot of money!!

This is an image of some wax figures of the staff that it took to run Vanderbilt's mansion year 'round. It took about thirty people--more when he was actually living in the house (which happened about six weeks a year).

And this is the building where the guests of Vanderbilt who were bachelors would stay the night. All the young woman and married couples would sleep in the same mansion as the Vanderbilts but not the bachelors. They had to sleep in a seperate building from the woman for fear of damaging the poor delicate females with the uncouth ways of the rowdy boys. It amused me very much, I say.

Taken through the car window on our trip back to our Home Away from Home after our day trip along the Hudson. I like how the moon is in the top center of the photo and then the blur at the bottom. A little bit of sunset can be seen in the corner!

Sideways Photo #3, yes, I am a very lazy person!! Sunday morning, a photo plaque beside the door inside the restrauant in Pennsylvania where we stopped for breakfast. Another sign there read, "The deadline for complaints was yesterday."
(Incase you can't read it because it's sideways, "No Trespassing--Violators will be shot, survivors will be shot again, by Laurie.")

...And the long car ride back to Wisconsin. We spent about fifteen hours in the car that day! So long and mostly boring. We did a lot of driving on our trip (and we drove my grandparents crazy during most/all of the rides) and so we entertained ourselves by spotting lisence plates. During our trip we spotted lisence plates from all of the fifty states but seven!

Home Sweet Home.

Well, thus ends our New York trip. If anyone wants to see all the pictures I took, I'll bring my camera to church and if you ask I'll let you flip through them. :) Otherwise, this is the end.
